Friday the 13th Weekend Recap

I need to recap some of this past week before I forget.

Almost Two Weeks Have Past

Almost two weeks ago now, right after we had our basement re-carpeted, Heather and I started a couple of projects in the basement. First Heather started the Herculean task of painting the woodwork in the basement bathroom. The woodwork in the bathroom had been left alone but is that dark brown from the late 60s early 70s. Coupled with the green rag-roll paint and poorly patched holes, this room was not as nice as it could be. Heather had the idea she wanted to paint the trim, doors and cabinets white and the rest of the room would be a deep blue. I picked out the blue… It was Cordon Bleu by Dutch Boy. No snide remarks please. Anyway, she finished it last week and it looks fantastic!

The other project we started happened when I went to Menards and bought wood to make shelves out of. Until now, I’d been using miscellaneous book shelves as storage for liquor in the wet bar. The back side of the bar was all wood paneling as well. So, two Saturday’s ago I called up Tom and asked if he could help me cut the wood I bought to the rite size. Tom has a mitre saw and a table saw so we made quick work of it once I’d come up with my measurements. I’d also bought some decorative brackets to use with them. Heather painted the shelves white and we painted the paneling behind the bar a nice gray color to contrast the shelves. Wow did that brighten things up. The bar is now fully repainted with brand new swank shelves. I must say I’m terribly pleased with how both the bathroom and the bar turned out.

Last weekend

On Friday the 13th Andy, Tom me and Adam all went to a class at the Cook’s of Crocus Hill on Grand in St. Paul. The class was entitled, “Steak and Scotch” and treated us two five different tastes of scotch as well as two different types of steak, an artichoke appetizer, scalloped potatoes, bread pudding and more. By the end of the class you know how to make a killer meal and you’ve been fortunate enough to sample five scotches! What a treat! For those of you who want to know that Scotch whiskies we sampled are: The Glenfiddich 12 Year, Laphroaig 10 Year, Highland Park 12 Year, The MacAllan 12 Year and Belvenie 12 Year Doublewood. All of which we came to re-appreciate in their own way. http://www.cooksofcrocushill.com/

After a fabulous meal the four of us met up with my Dad, Heather, Dena and Gwen at the Cabooze. Dick Dale, the famous left handed surf guitarist was there and we rocked out for the rest of the evening. The best part was watching my Dad go nuts as Dick Dale played. The man is a legend. My Dad that is. 😉 Anyway, a good time was had by all.

But it doesn’t end there!

Saturday night Adam Vernier was hosting a birthday party for Andy Masters, Gwen Jorgensen and himself! Their birthdays all fell over the weekend so he thought it would be apropos to host a party. It turned out well. There were many folks that came to share in the celebration. Adam received some glassware from Heather and I and from his friend Ray he got a submarine toy that Ray and I spent more time playing with than Adam. Mainly because it was broken… but that’s another story. Adam and Dena had the usual full spread including hot-dogs and hamburgers as well as chips, dips, chains and whips. There was a variety of import beers sampled that evening as well as some good bourbon, scotch and wine. (No, I did not drink them all) The party was fabulous!

Sunday, Heather and I found ourselves relaxing from our full weekend. Heather finished up the bathroom as was mentioned at the beginning of this entry and I cleaned my office up a bit.

All in all it was an A+ weekend. It is really hard to duplicate weekends like this so it’s good I wrote it down.
